The 58th Grammys are in the Books

What’s In-Store Music was in the house for music’s biggest night. Congratulations to all the winners: Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Alabama Shakes, Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars, The Weekend and all the rest.

Kendrick Lamar not only took home five trophies including best rap album for Pimp a Butterfly,  but also showed the  packed Staples Center crowd what’s up with a blistering performance of “The Blacker the Berry” into “Jail House Rock” and finishing with a blazing (literally) version of “Alright.”  The whole room had to catch their collective breath after that one.

Personal favorite moments were The Eagles joined by Jackson Browne for a moving rendition of the Glenn Frey/Browne penned “Take it Easy,” the  tribute to B.B. King performed by Grammy winner Chris Stapleton, Bonnie Raitt and Gary Clark Jr. with all of their amazing guitar styles beautifully interwoven in to “The Thrill is Gone”  and of course the queen herself, Adele belting out “All I Ask” from  the middle of the room. Just Awesome!

Broadway added a little culture along with a history lesson to the event by broadcasting the opening number to Hamilton live from New York City.  This show is an absolute must see the next time you visit the Big Apple. However If you plan on going any time in the next two years you better order your tickets for that one now!

A couple of "awe shucks" moments went to Ed Sheeran who thanked his parents for flying across the pond for the fourth straight time to attend the affair and FINALLY getting a chance to see him win, and Meghan Trainor's  tearful acceptance speech for Best New Artist. Everyone in the room wanted to give her a hug as she said her thank yous.

Taylor Swift got the last laugh in the on-going frenemy battle between her and Kanye West with a very pointed acceptance speech for album of the year. You go girl!

All in all it was another great Grammy evening and a reminder of what a wonderful business we are all fortunate enough to be a part of. We can’t wait to see what great music will be taking home the golden gramophone next year!
