Hughes is no stranger in the recording studio. The is an accomplished sound engineer and musician and has written and collaborated with recording teams that have worked with Lady Gaga, The Pussycat Dolls, and Carlos Santana and more.
Hughes' music has been placed with over 40 different TV shows and is now working on promoting his own material ... on the other side of the board.
1. You’re an accomplished sound engineer. What’s it like being the recording artist as opposed to the person doing the recording?
My favorite thing to do in the world, is to craft songs and make music. Performing is an amazing experience, often giving me an adrenaline “high” like surfing! BIGGER waves and skiing off mountain slopes. Recording in the studio is a feeling and a technical craft – artistic. I really enjoy all aspects of creating music.
2. You’ve placed quite a few of your songs in TV. Will you continue in that direction?
I'm hoping to get placement in more contemporary films. It's always a compliment to have a song placed. It's like getting reassurance for the creative work I love doing.
3. You blend a few genres in your music. How would you describe your musical style?
I started with soul music and R&B, then moved into rock. I also create with Hip Hop and House Music sounds. My style developed and many say my sound is a mixture of Contemporary Pop, Rock and Soul.
4. Who are your musical inspirations?
Well hard to say -- so many really. My roots are in Rock, Soul and R&B music along with some Gospel.
Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Al Green are some legends I enjoy!
5. Will we see you on the road anytime soon?
I'm working with artists from Australia, New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Montreal. I am crafting in the studio these days and I'm not planning to be on the road anytime soon. If the occasion arises, I maybe available for a live performance. Again, these days I am a studio musician.
Shameless Plug: What would you like our readers to know about you?
I am writing and producing all new releases. Hopefully I'll finish this year. I'm also working with multi-media companies on soundtrack ideas. I welcome more opportunities.
