You embarked on a soul-searching adventure to France to focus on your music. How did this experience change you as a person and as a musician?
My time in France was extremely transformative as a person and as an artist. Being in a city that embraces the arts and creative expression, encouraged me to freely step into a new chapter of life. I remember being invited to open for a French Artist who became a friend in France – Yasmin Devi Shah. She, and the French community who came to support the show connected with my music which really hit home on a personal level. I was more inspired than ever to follow this dream.
How would you describe your music and who are your musical influences?
I would describe my music as atmospheric, honest, empathetic, visceral, rustic, comforting, and stirring. I’m inspired by many great folk, rock and country artists including: Joan Baez, Loretta Lynn, Stevie Nicks, Neil Young, Simon & Garfunkel, Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams, Waylon Jennings, Allison Krauss, Patsy Cline, Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Bob Dylan, Neko Case, Bruce Springsteen, and many more!
Congrats on your new album, Heroine. Who does this album speak to and what is the message?
Heroine is reflective of my journey toward independence. Which I think is very relatable. Heroine is meant to be an inspiration and anthem to all who have experienced, or who are now experiencing changes in life.
What was the recording process like for you?
I imagine it was an emotional experience. The entire process was incredible. It was emotional in the best way possible, as the character and feeling behind each story was put together.
What was it like working with producer Stewart Lerman?
Stewart never imposed on what I imagined during the process or put aside my vision. He has a very laid back way about him, which makes you feel calm and freed up to go wherever you are led while creating. No reservations. This was extremely influential as an artist making her first record.
