Meet Dave Audé, Grammy-winning producer, house DJ, remixer and owner of Audacious Records. He's worked with the biggest names in the business and his music has topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart more than any other producer in history. His latest single, "All The Rules" feat. Ben Thornewill is playing at retail locations across the country and is soaring up the What's In-Store Music chart at No. 8 this week.
How did you get your start in the music business?
I was raving/clubbing years ago and I overheard someone looking for a keyboard player. The guy looking ended up starting a label and I wrote/produced the first release. My band, Lunatic Fringe was the first release on the legendary Moonshine Music.
You’ve had an amazingly successful career. Name five top accomplishments.
I would imagine everyone would expect me to say winning a Grammy. Mostly I'm proud of the fact that I'm still doing it after more than a decade and I still enjoy it. Honestly, every record I write/produce/remix is an accomplishment, I put 200% into each and every one regardless of artist or hype. My top accomplishments are actually off the field: marrying an amazing woman and talking her into having three kids (Ha ha, that's my greatest accomplishment).
What was it like to win a Grammy for 2016’s biggest song, “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars? Did you know the song was going to be a monster hit?
The song was already rocking when I jumped on board, so I’d say a lot of luck was involved. Also, I remixed a lot of records prior so that was the primer.
You’ve worked with U2, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, John Legend, Selena Gomez, Chris Brown, Korn, One Republic, Coldplay and more. Does it ever get old for you? Can you share any experiences/anecdotes about any of the above-mentioned artists?
I’m still working because I DON’T share anecdotes. I will say that at least HALF of all of the success of these records should be attributed to GREAT writing. Look up the songwriters on these records, they are the un-sung heroes! I hope we can start giving the songwriters more credit!
Who haven’t you worked with, but would like to?
I really like working with everyone, seriously. I enjoy the challenge of big records, and the bigger challenge of not-so-big records. Having said that, I would have liked to jam with John Lennon (wouldn’t we all?).
Finally, a shameless plug: What would you like our readers to know about you?
Your readers should know I really don’t enjoy plugging myself but a few things they might NOT know? I would eat Nobu every day if I could, and I love being a dad.
