What's In-Store Music client, Natalie Alexander comes from a musical family, so it was inevitable that she'd make her way to the spotlight. The singer-songwriter has just released a new EP and her single, "I Don't Want to Catch My Breath" is making strides at retail locations across the U.S. and is No. 13 this week on our current chart.
Meet Natalie ....
You grew up surrounded by music. When did it hit you that you wanted to make music your career?
I had always been involved in music. My mom is a classically trained vocalist and my brothers are talented musicians as well. Although I've been playing piano since I was 8, my first real introduction to the industry was through my involvement in managing my brothers' band. That gave me a taste of the representation side of the industry and I came to the point where I wanted to explore the creative side as an artist myself. The passion for music was always there, but it was definitely seeing my brothers' growth that inspired me to work on my own projects. Everything really fell into place for me and here we are now!
Your single, “I Don’t Wanna Catch My Breath” is getting played at retail locations across the country. What was the inspiration behind this track?
This is a ballad about the kind of love that is all-consuming. It's passionate, it's innocent and youthful but has a classic sound that I instantly fell in love with. Hillary Lindsey wrote it. She's really songwriting royalty so it's an honor to have recorded something with her name on it. It's honestly probably my favorite song on the EP because I get to perform it live on the piano. It's powerful and uplifting - the kind of song that makes you want to be in love!
What other gems can we hear on your EP?
"Cruel" is the hit single of the EP and it's such a fun song. It's a song I instantly felt connected to when I heard it and it talks about the cycle of hurting other people the way you've been hurt in past relationships. It's not just another angry song about a boy who broke a girl's heart, but it's about stopping that cycle, ending the hate, and there is strength in that. Being relatable is what I value the most when making music, and I really related to the message of "Cruel." I hope audiences can relate to it too!
When you’re not writing or performing, how do you spend your time?
I'm a huge movie and tv buff! When I have a free day, I love to binge watch a show on Netflix or go to a movie theater and stay all day to see 3 or 4 movies. I also try to exercise every day, so I'll go to a workout class most mornings. I also love checking out local coffee shops and doing work there, so I'll usually start my day trying a new local spot.
What goals are next in line for you?
Playing shows! I'm working on getting ready to perform and I'm so excited about it. I love being on stage and getting to play my own music is going to be such a fun experience. I can't wait for audience to share in that with me.
Finally, a shameless plug: What would you like our readers to know about you?
