Artist Spotlight: Remy Reilly
What's In-Store Music is excited to be working with singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Remy Reilly, whose single, "26" is at No. 29 on this week's current chart. We absolutely love her ethereal and warm vocals, smooth style and powerful lyrics; and the fact that she's just 14-years-old tells us we'll be hearing a lot more amazing music from her in the years to come!
What is your earliest music memory and what made you realize you wanted to pursue a career in this field?
My earliest music memory would be my dad taking me out to shows. I remember every time that I would go to one my eyes would stay glued to the drummer and would not leave till the end. I also remember my mom and I writing songs when I was five. At 12 I got serious with it and have been doing it ever since.
What is your instrument of choice and why?
This one is hard! I would ether have to pick between the piano or the drums. Drums because that’s what I started on and basically was the foundation for everything. Piano because I just love it, having all the notes out in front of you. Piano is also a percussion instrument so I guess that’s why I leaned toward it more when I wanted to learn something besides drums.
Who are your musical influences?
Although there are many my main ones would have to be ZZ Ward,Norah Jones, Andy Grammer and a band called James Supercave. I have been listening to ZZ since I was in 3rd grade! I love her tone and her style of writing. Norah Jones is just outstanding I’ve always wanted to be like her one day. I admire Andy Grammer for the passion he has for what he does and his amazing ability to write catchy melodies. James Supercave, man, they have these lyrics that just make you think. I could listen to them for hours. Definitely one of my favorites!
Who are your mentors (personal and/or professional) and what valuable lessons have you learned from them?
My number one influence and I’m very proud to say is my dad. I’m very lucky to have such supportive parents and I feel like I don’t say thank you enough. He has never doubted me,and is always there for whatever I need. He always gives the best advice and I really don’t have words to say how grateful I am. I could do this without him and I love him! One of the many lessons he has taught me in life is to always be nice to people, and honestly is the most important piece of advice for anyone. Glad to have such a positive person in my life.
When you’re not writing/recording/performing music, how do you spend your time?
When I am not doing my music, I love hanging out with my bunny and dogs. I also hang with family and friends. Other than that, that’s really all I do. (Laugh out loud)
