GLADES is a pop band from Australia that has seen huge success globally ... and they've done it on their own! Read about this talented trio's connection to Chloë Grace Moretz, plus their sage advice for other indie artists. All good stuff!
Who are the members of GLADES and how did you come up with the name?
Karina Wykes, Cam Robertson, and Joey Wenceslao. We spent weeks trying to think of a name - then one day Cam was out of town snowboarding, and went down a run called “The Glades.”
How was Chloë Grace Moretz instrumental in the success of your single “Drive?”
Funny story actually -- Chloë Grace Moretz shares a lot of music on Twitter. A few days after "Drive" was released she tweeted about Bishop Briggs’ song called “River” but shared the link to our song instead! Having the social media presence she has, it drew a lot of attention to "Drive" and helped it climb the hype machine charts.
You’ve made great strides with your music and have done it completely independently. What advice would you offer to other indie artists striving for success?
We’ve learnt that people can promise you the world, but you have to figure out who will actually kick down doors for you. Know your worth. Figure out what’s important to you and surround yourself with people who can help you achieve your vision.
Congrats on the success of “Do Right.” Aside from getting INSANE play at retail (the first song in What’s In-Store Music history to reach No. 1 in just two weeks!), what other great things are happening with the single?
Thanks!! We just finished up our “Do Right” headline tour around Australia. It just reached over 50 million streams on Spotify and went gold here recently, so we got our first plaques! Since we did it independently, we didn’t do anything official -- our managers handed us our plaques at a cafe, and we took a photo on the side of the road!
What plans does the band have for the summer?
Right now we’re working hard in the studio and writing lots of new music for our debut album!
