A Tribute to Jim Swindel

My heart was broken this weekend as I learned of the loss of my dear friend Jim Swindel. Jim and I worked together at Island Records back in the 80's and forged a life-long friendship. To say that Jim was one of the smartest; most dynamic; passionate & compassionate; caring; and well loved executives in the music business would be an understatement…he was all that and more!!! I looked forward to seeing Jim every day and he was the foundation of a great team at Island his whole time there. This is the kind of guy he was: My close friend, Paul Yeskel, asked me if I could get his brother Dave a meeting with Jim and see if there were any opportunities available. Jim agreed, but indicated that most likely that there was nothing. I prepped both Paul & Dave and indicated there may be nothing to come from an interview. Of course, Dave ran into my office after meeting with Jim and thanked me so much…Jim had found a position for him!! This was the start of a long industry career for Dave…I suspect that same story was true for many others who came in contact with Jim. Jim made a positive impact on every person he came in touch with. Jim and his wife Randi were just a beautiful couple, brought together by our industry; and raised two incredible boys. Over the last couple of years of dealing with Jim's declining health, she was a rock to all who know her. She took care of Jim; the kids; and never hid from the health issues when those of us who called to check on Jim. A remarkable woman who had the love of a remarkable man taken too soon. RIP Jim…xo Bob
