Rolling Stone named him one of the top 10 country artists you need to know in 2017, and we're thrilled to be sending his music to retail locations across the U.S. His single, "California Dreamin'" is #44 on this week's What's In-Store Music Current Chart and we have no doubt it's just the beginning.
Your musical style blends traditional country with modern times. Who are your musical influences, both old school and new?
I don't put labels on my work but I love to discuss the old school and new school especially with other artists because I'm curious what they were thinking at the time they were having a feeling they felt was worth talking about.
How do you think the musical landscape has changed in Country music?
I think the musical landscape has been consistent with the times. The world is constantly changing and evolving so the music is too. The things people were singing about in the past are no different than the future other than the delivery. Every generation has there moment in time and you preserve it the best way you can like a song.
You were a nationally recognized champion horseman before your musical career. Do you still ride? How did this experience prepare you as a country star?
I just ride for pleasure mostly but that hasn't been on my mind in a good while. The life style of traveling and living on the road along with the disciplines of working amongst crowds helped me deal with emotion and expression.
What’s in store for you in 2018?
I've been concentrating my efforts on writing new songs. I hope to have a handful by this summer looking to the beaches and western culture for inspiration.
Favorite Southern dish one must order when visiting the South:
Your talking to the wrong person on that! I've been a pescatarian now for awhile. If I were to spend a night out with you on the town I would chose a good sushi place or Italian!
Finally, a shameless plug: What would you like our readers to know about you?
If you love the west coast, deep sea fishing, fast cars, horses, empty beaches, surfing, good food and good wine will have a lot to talk about!
