Another Legend Lost….. A Tribute to Al Moinet
In an industry of rock stars, Al Moinet was a rock star of promotion!! I got to know Al over the years while he was at A&M and was always impressed by his larger than life personality and ability to connect with anyone. Radio programmers always talked about how much they loved being promoted by Al…he was fluent in sports; movies; TV; world events…and of course, the music he was promoting. I was thrilled when our work paths finally crossed at Charisma Records where he was my head of Top 40 promotion. How lucky was I to have this Hall of Fame executive on my team at last!! Al was integral in our success with #1 songs from Maxi Priest and Right Said Fred. The staff loved him; the artists and managers appreciated all his efforts; and radio just adored him. Al moved on to Virgin after Charisma was folded into Virgin and continued to excel and break even more songs there. Al and I never lost touch and I was so happy that we talked a couple of weeks back. He was insistent I watch the Tina Turner documentary….still promoting after all the years! We lost Al last Friday and another legend has been taken from us. My love, and that of all his friends, goes out to his wife Linda, who loved and cared for Al for many years. Linda was the rock that kept the rock star going!! I'd say RIP Al, but I know you and Charlie Minor will hanging out again and having a great time in heaven!!
